the hunt for a dog and a church

well i am not a good blogger by any means but i feel like i have to update every once in a while.

The past few weekends have been really relaxing and even a little boring. This past weekend we went on the hunt to adopt a dog. We heard about free dogs at the SPCA Dallas. So we decided to head down to Dallas and look at dogs. Well the free dogs where to the 1st 10 people to adopt and all the other dogs are 50% off. We found a dog that we connected with but he had heart worms. We just didn't feel right about living on the 3rd floor with a dog that was going to have to have some operations and be un active for 4-6 weeks. It was really sad when we left because he put his nose on the bars of his cage and gave us the look... you know the look why are you leaving me in this cage.....

Sunday we decided to try a new church and we both really liked it. So we are going to go back next Sunday and try a different service. We have had a hard time finding a Church that we both like, so it was nice to both walk out of the service happy with our time of worship. After church we decided to go to pet's mart to see the dogs that were up for adoption there. We found one online that we wanted to look at and he was there.... We go over to his cage and get him out to play with and then we saw the aggressive side of the dog..... and we were like NOPE. Another dog walked by and he went crazy and living where we do we cant have an Alpha dog... (too many other dogs).

So all and all we couldn't find a dog that fit us and our living situation..... but we might of found a Church....

Well well well....hello to my long lost blogging buddies.... This is the weak that my beautiful wife has been dreading since august 2007 when she started at TCU. 

This week consist of 10 tests for Liz.... yes that is right 10 tests. 3 today, 3 wed. and 3 on Friday. Saturday morning she has her big text called the praxis which is the one that counts the most in my (check) book..... it is the non school test

So if you could be thinking/praying for Liz this week I know she would appreciate it.  

Just a little update on our first Holiday Season as a married couple.... We had a great time with the Stevens family in Arlington for Christmas. My parents came down on the Friday after Christmas which was really great to spend some time with them it has been way to long. 

New Years Eve we did what most normal people do.... went to the grocery store, cooked an awesome dinner and watched all of the people freeze in NYC. It was really nice to not have to risk my life with all of the drunk drivers out there. (i think that means i am getting old that i liked staying in on NYE). 

Well that is about all i got tonight............

Christmas party and Cowboys game

Saturday night we had the annual Stevens family Christmas party. This year was a little more special for Bob and Susan as it was also a 25th wedding anniversary. The highlight of the party for Liz and myself was the cake. Bob and Susan ordered a small wedding cake to celebrate their silver anniversary. Susan was teasing Elizabeth that in year 2033 we can have a joint sliver and gold anniversary party. OK i started to think about that and i will 50 that year...... crazy to think about that.... We also had a Chinese gift exchange where i got my own gift (season 4 of entourage) and liz got some more cupcake stuff.... (just what we needed but she really loved it).....


Sunday we slept in and had a lazy sunday morning. One of my vendors at work invited me to go to the Dallas Cowboys game on sunday night. So i was pumped. I have only been to a pre season NFL game when it was played in Norman when i was younger, so i was really excited about going.....

The game is at 7:15 so we meat for dinner around 4:45 and left the restaurant about an hour later to make a 7:15 game. Should of been plenty of time right? NOPE!!!!!! we get to the stadium with our Blue lot parking pass.... AND then the Grid lock starts.... we sat in almost pure gridlock for 2 plus hours. ... So we missed the first quarter of the game and we almost gave up even getting into the game.... we finally get to park and we are at the back of the lot and we were the 5th to last car to park in that lot. The lot we parked in was perfect for two reason 1) a straight walk to our seats 2) we got out and on the highway in 5 mins and didnt stop until we got to my car. So i guess the two hours of waiting paid off for the drive home. So all and all i would have to say NFL games are fun but nothing beats going to home game of the college you attended.....

much needed update

Well sorry for the long delay on posting.... the past 2 weeks have been pretty busy with the new job title, Thanksgiving, bedlam, etc....

Thanksgiving we went up to Rattan and spent time at the farm.  The big highlight was going to the Hugo WalMart a few times and making 6 trips to Antlers to get the 4 wheelers tuned up.  We thought the engine was going out or maybe the transmission.  Turns out the culprit.... dirt dobbers.  

After Rattan we drove up to Stillwater to watch our Sooners take care of the cowboys. We got up early Saturday to go check out the festivities.  It was fun to feel like I was in college again.  Some of the signs were great.... such as the Sooner Schooner aka "The Original Mobile Home"

After they were finished taping, we creeped around stalked some of the ESPN guys.

Liz got to take a picture with Kirk from ESPN Gameday. This made all the lurking cougars jealous.

Please note Kirk is wearing slightly more make up than Liz in this one.... ohhh well, you never know when you will have a brush with fame? The game was fun and we had a great/cold time in Stillwater. 

Although it was a very quiet drive home Sunday with the Stevens'.

This week Elizabeth has been a little under the weather. A flu shot, doc in a box visit, and a z-pack later she is finally feeling better and we are all thankful for that.




This weekend I didn't want to do anything or spend very much money so we did exactly that. Liz and her mom made a ton of Christmas candy, cookies, cakes, etc. so I had the tough job of watching football all day.  Some of the final wrapped products:

Also this weekend we finally sorted through the mounds of fine china and crystal and organized it.  I think a china hutch (and a house) is now on Liz's Christmas list, uhhohh.  Maybe next year.... 

Sorry again for the long delay on updating but really nothing has been too exciting to blog about. Guess we need a dog?

my wife and the cheese grater

so my lovely wife has been quite the top chef in the kitchen this week (on top of her motor speech test, projects being due, and finishing up her work at the hospital).... macaroni and cheese, crock pot bbq chicken, salads, vegetables, sweet potatoes, pizza, just to name a few of her culinary masterpieces. tonight, as she was preparing dinner for us after her long drive home from fort worth, she decides to grate some fresh Parmesan cheese to go on top of our pizza. As she is grating the cheese i hear ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH!!!!!!! me, being the accommodating husband i am, continue checking out my fantasy football stats. next thing i know she is running into the bathroom (still screaming). in our 4+ years of knowing each other this is basically the first time she has ever freaked out in such a manner. typically i am the one with the aliments or unusual issues. i hear "STEVEN CAN YOU PLEEEEASE COME IN HERE, AND BRING PAPER TOWELS, AND THROW AWAY THE CHEESE, AND HURRY" not knowing what exactly had happend i comply. liz was standing in the bathroom running her finger under water, blood spatered all over the sink, she had gracefully grated her finger.... as i stand there watching her i start to think... i mean say out loud "i finally have something to blog about".... probably not the best thing to say out loud when a chunk of skin from your wife's finger is in the freshly grated cheese at the bottom of the plate. sick, i know. i have never seen her in a pressure (aka bloody) situation before. she was not as calm as i would have expected, trying to make light of the situation i tried to convince her to put peroxide on the "laceration".... i believe her reply was "#&@*&$*#$% GO AWAY"

so an anxiety attack, no peroxide, and 4 bandaids later-- back to pizza and survivor. a fun thursday night.


and I know you are thinking it and NO we didn't eat the cheese....

layoff...... yes another layoff

well well well Highland Homes did their 5th layoff today. It wasn't like it was unexpected but still this was one of the biggest ones to date. 12 construction personal, 7 out of 12 purchasing people, and a handful more of office staff. With layoffs comes a lot of change for us. I am now going to be a full time warranty manager back in McKinney. I am so thankful to still have a job and a way to provide for my wife. So thanks for praying for us this past week and just keep us and my company in your prayers that we can survive this funk that this economy is in.
